Primary Economics Ltd Trading as NZ Meat & Wool Boards Economic Service I was appointed to the old committee of the Economic Service when first elected as a Board member in September 1995. For the last three years I have been Chairman. In that time we have negotiated the extention of the joint funding agreement with the Wool Board and then two years ago, introduced a more commercial model and formed the Service into a company called Primary Economics Ltd. The focus of the company now is on trying to increase revenues from "outside" income generating sales. At the same time a performance based pay system has been introduced to offer incentives to the company staff to achieve beyond expectation. Last year we developed a website presense and it is policy to increasingly use the internet, not only to source primary information to go into the important database that generates the predictions but also as a means of conveying information to farmers and the industry to assist them in making better business decisions. Meat New Zealand's role generally as a provider of information and knowledge to all components of the value chain is vital and Primary Economics is seen as a key component in that. The mission is to make that a commercially based lean organisation able to deliver in a timely manner. In both the last two financial years the Economic Service has exceeded its budgeted surplus targets and returned funds to the Board. I urge you soon to visit the new website. One of the farmer features is a section to assist in doing budget pricing which will be updated as the season progresses. |
